Sedation Dentistry in Chula Vista, CA
Sedation allows anxious patients the opportunity to have the dentistry they need and want without the anxieties they associate with visiting their dentist. Dr. Gistaro, Dr. Shah, and Dr. Parmar and our team are able to accomplish a wide range of dental treatments—from a simple filling to extensive reconstructive work—in a relaxed, totally comfortable atmosphere.
Types of Sedation
Regardless of the sedation option you choose, you can rest easy knowing that your entire treatment will be customized to make your experience completely safe and as easy as possible.
Inhalation — Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the most frequently used method we use at our Chula Vista dental office to ease mild to moderate anxiety. Recovery is quick so you can resume your normal activities immediately. There is no need to have someone drive you to your appointment.
Oral — Oral sedation is used for patients with moderate to severe anxiety. With oral sedation, you will remain awake throughout your procedure, but will be in a deep state of relaxation.
If you choose oral sedation, you’ll be given a prescription for several medications. You’ll take the first medication with dinner the evening before your appointment. Do not eat anything when you wake up in the morning, and take the second medication about an hour before your appointment. Take any regular medications as directed by your doctor. With oral sedation, we require that you have a parent, spouse, or friend accompany you to appointments because it can take several hours for the sedative to wear off, and driving will be unsafe.
Many of our Chula Vista dental patients also have a fear of needles, which is why we offer computerized injections with the Wand® single-tooth anesthesia. After a topical numbing agent is applied to the tooth, a tiny injection is administered, numbing that tooth and that tooth only. Most patients who’ve received anesthetic with the Wand tell us they never feel a thing!
